Misalnya elo mulai baca di jam 13.00. Menurut perkiraan gue sih, elo bakal baca artikel ini selama 5 menit. Nah, dengan menggunakan future continuous tense, gue bisa bilang nih, “By 13.05, you will have been reading this article for 5 minutes.”

Jadi, peristiwa “reading this article” itu sedang berlangsung mulai dari jam 13.00, tapi ada batas waktunya di masa depan, yaitu di jam 13:05.

Apa Itu Future Perfect Continuous Tense?

Future perfect continuous tense adalah jenis tense yang bisa elo gunakan ketika membicarakan suatu hal yang sedang dalam proses terjadi (ongoing/in progress), dengan batas waktu tertentu di masa depan.

Future perfect continuous tense ini kurun waktunya nggak hanya dari present sampai future, tapi bisa juga dari past sampai future. Lho, kayak gimana tuh, maksudnya?

Biar nggak bingung, coba elo simak grafik berikut ini, ya!

Kalau pakai time frame present-future, berarti peristiwa terjadi dalam kurun waktu sekarang hingga suatu waktu di masa depan. Contohnya kayak yang gue kasih di awal tadi, di mana peristiwa “reading this article” berlangsung dari sekarang (13.00) hingga nanti (13.05).

Kalau pakai time frame past-future, berarti kita mengindikasikan kalau peristiwanya ini udah dimulai dari masa lalu, masih ongoing di masa sekarang, dan ada batasan waktunya di masa depan.

Contohnya nih, gue udah tinggal di Yogyakarta dari tahun 2018. Sekarang juga masih menetap di sini, hehe, dan rencananya mau menetap disini sampai seterusnya.

Sekarang, di tahun 2022, gue bisa bilang, “By 2023, I will have been living in Yogyakarta for 5 years.”
Dari situ, bisa disimpulkan kalau fungsi future perfect continuous tense adalah untuk membicarakan peristiwa yang ongoing dalam kurun waktu mulai dari past atau present dengan batasan waktu di future.

Rumus Perfect Continuous Tense

Udah paham sama pengertian dan fungsinya, sekarang kita lanjut ke rumusnya, yuk!

Meskipun tadi gue udah kenalin ke elo kalau di tense ini ada dua time frame yang bisa dipakai, tapi rumusnya sama aja. Seperti biasa, gue akan kasih rumus-rumus untuk bentuk positif, negatif, dan juga interogatif.

They will have been waiting for the train for 4 hours by 7 o’clock.
Once she gets over UTBK, she will have been studying with Zenius for 3 years.
Indi will have been singing a whole album by the time Lintang arrives.
My grandmother eats very slowly. I will have been eating 3 portions before she finishes a single portion.

Future Perfect Continuous Tense: Negative

They will not have been taking other courses before they finish the compulsory ones.
We will not have been working on this project until Sarah joins us.
Hugo will not have been playing Roblox for 3 hours by the time his father gets home. Instead, he will have been playing for 5 hours!
The students will not have been discussing before the teacher instructs them to do so.
She will not have been living in Manchester for 5 years by the end of this year. She will have been living there for 7 years by that time!
